Hemantika Festival in Spain

The Echo of Tradition & Youthful Energy

This year marks a special milestone — the 10th anniversary of the Hemantika Festival, a celebration of Kathak and its evolving journey across generations.

Featuring Vidushi Smt. Saswati Sen

We are honoured to host Saswati Sen, one of the most respected and celebrated disciples of the legendary Pt. Birju Maharaj, for a once-in-a-lifetime Kathak workshop in Barcelona. A distinctive artist, Shashwati Sen is known for her graceful movements, clarity of technique, depth of abhinaya (expressions) and powerful footwork. Her performances blend precision and poetry, evoking timeless emotion.

A torchbearer of the tradition of Kathak, Saswati Sen carries forward her Guru’s legacy with rare devotion and brilliance. She has performed on some of the most prestigious stages across the world and has taught hundreds of students, making an indelible and lasting impact on the global Kathak landscape.

Saswati Sen’s presence in any room is not only that of a dancer - she is also a storyteller, a teacher, and a guardian of an artistic heritage that transcends generations.

This workshop is a rare chance for European dancers and art lovers to immerse themselves in the rich and nuanced tradition of Kathak, directly from a custodian of Maharaj ji’s legacy. Saswati ji will share with us, not just compositions, but stories, philosophy, and the subtle beauty that makes Kathak an experience for the soul.
